Upcoming World Cup Qualifying Games and Info

In the past couple of weeks there have been many World Cup qualifying games in all the regions. Some teams have qualified for next summer in South Africa, some teams that are still in the hunt, and some were eliminated, taking them out of the World Cup 2010 future betting scenario.

Here are the qualifying games for each region that are coming up and how the groups look. See the latest World Cup betting odds here

World Cup qualifying odds - Europe

There is a long layoff for the European World Cup qualifying games, as they do not begin again until August 19th and many games in the beginning of October.

The teams that are in good shape to play next summer from Europe are Denmark, Slovakia, Germany, Russia, Spain, England, Serbia, Italy, and Holland.

The teams that many thought would be locks to play next summer, but are in danger of missing out and still have an uphill battle to make it to South Africa are Portugal, Czech Republic, Turkey, Croatia, Ukraine, and France.

World Cup qualifying odds - South America

The South American World Cup qualifying games start up again in on September 5th. Brazil leads the group with 27 points, but they are not in the clear, as they are several teams battling it out to qualify.

Brazil is followed by surprising Chile (26 points), Paraguay (24 points), Argentina (22 points), Ecuador (20 points), Uruguay (18 points), and Columbia and Venezuela (17 points each). The top four teams from South America will automatically qualify and the 5th place team will play the fourth place team from the North/Central America and the Caribbean region for a berth.

World Cup qualifying odds - North/Central America and the Caribbean

The nest qualifying games from the North/Central America and the Caribbean will begin again August 12th.

The top three teams from the group will automatically qualify for next summer and the fourth place team will play the fifth place team from South America for a berth. Costa Rica (12 points) and USA (10 points) look like locks to make it, while the battle will be between Honduras (7 points), Mexico (6 points), and El Salvador (5 points).

World Cup qualifying odds - Asia

There is only one more round of World Cup qualifying games for the Asia region, which will be held June 17th. There are four automatic berths, two from each group, and the two third place teams will play each other and the winner will play New Zealand for the final berth.

Australia and Japan have already qualified from Group 1 and South Korea has already qualified from Group 2. The big match next week is between North Korea at Saudi Arabia, as the winner of the game will automatically qualify.

World Cup qualifying odds - Africa

The Africa region still has several qualifying games left and they will begin again June 20th. There are five groups and each group winner will play next summer. The current group leaders are Gabon, Tunisia, Algeria and Zambia, Ghana, and Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

World Cup qualifying odds - Oceana

New Zealand has already won the group play in the Oceana region and they will play the fifth place team from the Asian zone. The winner of that playoff will earn a berth in the World Cup.

World Cup soccer odds – World Cup 2010 futures

Qualifying is well underway and there have been some upsets, yet the usual suspects top the World Cup 2010 future odds lists across the world.

Brazil owns the shortest odds at 5/1, while South American neighbor Argentina sits at 11/2. Spain, the defending European champions, share the top slot with Brazil at 5/1.

Defending champion Italy, which had been a longshot entering the 2006 World Cup, currently sit at 11/1 odds. The team they defeated in the penalty shoot in Germany (France) is now 18/1.

Some fans and bettors ask the question: why would I bet the World Cup now, well in advance of the tournament field being set and without seeing the injury situations and form at that time? The answer is that singling out a longshot now can pay out far better than when the action begins.

Remember Euro 2004 when Greece entered the tournament as 500/1 underdog? Remember how the odds kept falling as they pulled upset after upset? Remember the global shock when the Greeks paraded the European championship trophy around the field?

For example, the Greeks are currently 100/1 while the powerful Dutch are 18/1.

Not all soccer future wagers are good ones and you should limit these bets. However, placing a few strategic future bets can pad your bankroll. Check out the latest World Cup odds by clicking here.
