The Trouble with Thierry
Written by Neil Jordan
Thierry Henry of France has been often criticized for not playing for his country as well as he does for his club team, Arsenal. This has caused waves with the France faithful.

France International Thierry HenrySome say it is because he is more comfortable in England personally, with his wife and young daughter, which I believe to be part of the reason.  Some say it is because Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger tailors the attack to Henry, which is also partly true.  But these are also the reasons I believe Henry is ready to break out on the international stage.  A stable family life is very important to anyone, and this has kept Henry as the level-headed professional he has come to be known as.  The major reason, however, is the influence Wenger and the Arsenal club that has shaped Henry.  When fellow Frenchman Patrick Vieira roamed the Gunners midfield as their inspirational captain, Henry was allowed to shirk pressure, and concentrate only on scoring goals.  Vieira left for Juventus, and there was only one logical replacement.  At first, Henry seemed to have a rough time settling into the armband, which correlated with Arsenal's midseason woeful run on the road.

But then as Arsenal progressed in the Champions League to face Real Madrid in a steaming Bernabeu, Henry, in his now familiar lone striker role, had one of his best performances ever in an Arsenal shirt, highlighted by a stunning solo goal where he beat three Madrid defenders, to send the Gunners through.  En route to losing the Champions League in heart-breaking fashion to Barcelona, Henry would lead Arsenal past former skipper Vieira's Juventus and Villarreal, which showed the striker tracking back, making tackles, chasing loose balls, and showing a bit of a mean streak, I for one, did not think he had in him.  Henry's resigning with Arsenal after bids from Barca and Madrid were turned down is another good thing, where he can continue to grow as a person and a footballer.  The national team will need Henry to continue to assert himself as he does with Arsenal, despite all eyes being on retiring captain Zinedine Zidane's swan song.  If Zizou is going to have a sending-off worthy of his title as the best player of his generation, he will need support from the man who has all the tools to become the best player of his.

Tottenham v Blackburn - Match Preview - 19 November 2006

Two sides looking for something to spark their seasons clash at Ewood Park on Sunday as 15th-place Blackburn hosts 12th-place Tottenham.

Rovers are favored to win at home at 2.50, and Spurs are set at 3.00. A draw is rated at 3.30.

Blackburn fought hard, but were shut out 1-0 at home by Manchester United last weekend. Blackburn were outshot 16-10, and were booked four times in the fixture.

Robbie Keane's 24th-minute penalty was not enough as Spurs were beaten 3-1 at Reading in their last league match. Spurs led in both shots and possession, but their defence could not hold firm.

Tottenham have won five and drawn twice of their past ten matches with Rovers, who hold a 10-9 lead in goals scored.
