European soccer league odds update
Many of the same old teams in Italy Serie A, La Liga in Spain, and the Bundesliga in Germany are near the top of their respective league tables, but there are some surprises and some major disappointments.

Italy Serie A odds

In perhaps in the biggest surprise in Serie A, and maybe Europe, is the fact that Sampdoria is leading the league with 15 points. They recently beat defending champion Inter Milan and their defense has been stellar in only giving up five goals in six games.

The usual suspects are near the top, as Juvenutus (14 points), Inter Milan (13 points), and Fiorentina (13 points) are right in the thick of things. After a horrid start AC Roma is starting to play well and they have moved into 10th with eight points.

AC Milan fans are far from happy, as they are in 11th position, have only scored three goals in six games, AND they recently lost a shocking match losing to FC Zurich, in Milan no less, in a recent Champions League match.

Even though it is the still the beginning of the season it looks as if Livorno (2 points), Atalanta (2 points), Catania (3 points), and Siena (4 points) will be battling not to be relegated.

Spain La Liga odds

Just as many expected La Liga looks to be a two-team race between defending champion Barcelona (15 points) and new look Real Madrid (15 points). Both teams are even in points, goals scored (16), and records (5 wins 0 losses 0 draws.

Sevilla (12 points) and Mallorca (10 points) are near the top of the league table, but catching the stacked teams of Barcelona and Real Madrid will be hard, but each would love to be in the top four to get the automatic Champions League qualification.

Valencia has been a tad disappointing only in seventh position, as they have given up nine goals this season and have scored eleven. The biggest shock in La Liga so far this season is Atletico Madrid.

Last season Atletico Madrid was solid in league play and in the Champions League, but this season they are in 18th position in the league and are winless so far (0 wins 3 draws 2 losses). They are also in the bottom of their Champions League group and it does not look like they will advance to the knockout phase.

Germany Bundesliga odds

The beginning of the Bundesliga has been a little bit of a surprise, as Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen are tied with the league lead with 17 points apiece while Schalke 04 (16 points) and Hoffenheim (14 points) are right on their heels.

Werder Bremen (12 points) has avoided the horrible start that killed them last season and they are tied with last year’s Bundesliga champion Wolfsburg (12 points).

Perennial giant Bayern Munich has struggled a bit this season so far with only 11 points, which is good for seventh position. VfB Stuttgart has been a big disappointment so far, as even though they are playing in the Champions League this season they are only in 11th position in the Bundesliga.

World Cup soccer odds – World Cup 2010 futures

Qualifying is well underway and there have been some upsets, yet the usual suspects top the World Cup 2010 future odds lists across the world.

Brazil owns the shortest odds at 5/1, while South American neighbor Argentina sits at 11/2. Spain, the defending European champions, share the top slot with Brazil at 5/1.

Defending champion Italy, which had been a longshot entering the 2006 World Cup, currently sit at 11/1 odds. The team they defeated in the penalty shoot in Germany (France) is now 18/1.

Some fans and bettors ask the question: why would I bet the World Cup now, well in advance of the tournament field being set and without seeing the injury situations and form at that time? The answer is that singling out a longshot now can pay out far better than when the action begins.

Remember Euro 2004 when Greece entered the tournament as 500/1 underdog? Remember how the odds kept falling as they pulled upset after upset? Remember the global shock when the Greeks paraded the European championship trophy around the field?

For example, the Greeks are currently 100/1 while the powerful Dutch are 18/1.

Not all soccer future wagers are good ones and you should limit these bets. However, placing a few strategic future bets can pad your bankroll. Check out the latest World Cup odds by clicking here.
