England Announce World Cup Squad

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has just announced his provisional squad for the World Cup Finals.

The injured Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen have both been included. But Shawn Wright-Phillips, Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent and Ledley King are notable absences.

The annoucement quickly pushed England's odds of winning the World Cup to 9/1 at some bookmakers.

Michael OwenSurprise inclusions are Stewart Downing, Owen Hargreaves, Theo Walcott and Aaron Lennon.

There are only four strikers in the squad, including the injured Rooney and Owen. Eriksson also listed five players on a standby list.

Eriksson must name his final squad on Monday May 15th, but he has until 24 hours before England's first game on June 10th to replace any injured players.
