Can Argentina avoid a repeat of 2002?
Written by Mike Meaney

If a team survive’s what most consider to be the toughest or better yet “Trickiest” group’s in Group C, they will either be fine-tuned to take a run at the title or they will be wore down and exhausted.

Hernan CrespoOne of those teams is Argentina, always a threat in International competition. Taking a closer look at this year’s squad, they look poised to advance and avoid a repeat of their first-round exit four years ago in Korea/Japan.

30-year old veteran Hernan Crespo was quoted as saying “ "I think it will be less difficult than last time because there is no 'clasico' in this group. Argentina against England was a 'clasico' because a game like that generates huge interest and it conditions all the other group games.” He also said,  "It is our desire to win the World Cup again but it is going to be difficult and we mustn't forget that in the history of football, Argentina have only won the World Cup twice. That shows how difficult it will be to win it."

Judging from those statements, the intriguing veteran was hoping to somehow allow his team to come under the radar - and as we know from past Argentine team’s, this one will be a classic one that features Lionel Messi - often compared to the charismatic Diego Maradona. Honestly, do you think a player and team that draws those comparisons will slip under the radar? Yeah, me neither.

Argentina coach Jose Pekerman announced his final 23-man roster for Germany today without much fanfare. His team will be loaded with youth, but it also exhibits some veteran presence to add balance and maturity to a squad looking to win it’s first World Cup in 20 years. Of note though, the team boasts a number of players from last year’s FIFA World Youth Championship team, so, while young, they do know how to win.

Most eyes will certainly be on Group C right from the start of this year’s FIFA World Cup in Germany. The question remains - Can Argentina go about it’s business with the added pressure of their result in 02 and their reputation as a soccer nation without crumbling?

Tottenham v Blackburn - Match Preview - 19 November 2006

Two sides looking for something to spark their seasons clash at Ewood Park on Sunday as 15th-place Blackburn hosts 12th-place Tottenham.

Rovers are favored to win at home at 2.50, and Spurs are set at 3.00. A draw is rated at 3.30.

Blackburn fought hard, but were shut out 1-0 at home by Manchester United last weekend. Blackburn were outshot 16-10, and were booked four times in the fixture.

Robbie Keane's 24th-minute penalty was not enough as Spurs were beaten 3-1 at Reading in their last league match. Spurs led in both shots and possession, but their defence could not hold firm.

Tottenham have won five and drawn twice of their past ten matches with Rovers, who hold a 10-9 lead in goals scored.
